Event Description

 Sturgis 2013

Sturgis 2014 the 74th annual black hills rally August 4 through August 10.

To those who made it last year you know what a great time we had.

I have been informed the days end campground has raised there rates to $30 or $35 a night if you stay more than three nights.  They also have cabins with AC.  But they are expensive.  Last year those of us who didn't camp would meet up across the street from the campground every morning it's just right off the exit for Sturgis, second exit coming from the east first exit from the west.

Here is a link to a campground in Spearfish Its a city run camp ground.

I spoke to them this week $21 per nite per person, and they take reservations for rally week only. Plus you will be close to those of us who are staying in spearfish approximately 10-12 members

Daily  meetup point for members staying in and around Spearfish, and all rides going west.

As a former road captain, to anyone who has not been to Sturgis when you are on the back roads, stay away from the center line!  Do single file through the twistes, Use the whole lane, All incoming traffic and speed are your biggest dangers.

Know and understand your limits this is not the place to test them if you are not an experienced rider be extremely careful.

Your number one job is to not run into the motorcycle in front of you. Number two is to make sure that you can negotiate the turns.

I am an aggressive rider I like to go fast I like to test the limits of my equipment and myself. But we have to be aware that there are  people with us, those we know and hundreds we don't that you have no idea what their skill level is.

Always remember almost anywhere from 6 to 10 riders die every year in Sturgis.

Don't you be one of them!

We had a tough reminder this weekend, Motorcycles in large groups are dangerous. We had a rider on an Indiana ride Friday, Go down hard he's in bad shape in a hospital Kentucky .  My suggestions are that everyone have emergency contact information for everyone in your group!

We found out what a nightmare he can be if you can't contact family members if  one of your brothers or sisters go down.

Our brother bob Thomas was not planning on coming to Sturgis, he will ride again but his rehab could take a year.

Please everyone keeps him and his family and your prayers.

If anyone knows of a room where two people can stay for 2 people at $50 a night, let me know. I would like to stay close to SOLR groups if possible. Kelly and I are planning on tenting for now. If you have a yard who would let us use let us know. Our joy is in finding a group to hang with.

When/where will the folks from Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana be heading to Sturgis?  We will be in Colorado on Friday, perhaps going up to the Little Big Horn Monument (in Montana) before going to Sturgis.
