Event Description

 Sturgis 2013

Sturgis 2014 the 74th annual black hills rally August 4 through August 10.

To those who made it last year you know what a great time we had.

I have been informed the days end campground has raised there rates to $30 or $35 a night if you stay more than three nights.  They also have cabins with AC.  But they are expensive.  Last year those of us who didn't camp would meet up across the street from the campground every morning it's just right off the exit for Sturgis, second exit coming from the east first exit from the west.

Here is a link to a campground in Spearfish Its a city run camp ground.

I spoke to them this week $21 per nite per person, and they take reservations for rally week only. Plus you will be close to those of us who are staying in spearfish approximately 10-12 members

Perfect. Thanks Dan.

The problem with that is that a text to 10+ people counts as 10 texts....if 10 responses happen you now have 100 texts for each person in the chain. If people don't have unlimited texting it's an issue of practicality ....not toes....not our first rodeo! ;) no bad ideas. With the daily meetings people will work out communication.

Man that means I have to get twits....

We can also set up a hashtag too: #solrstugis2014 or something like that. It would be easier than trying to text 10+ people... That can turn into an expensive mess for some cell plans. Thoughts??

We have a @solriders twitter account. Let's use that.

On the call, I noticed there were some mentions of the need to coordinate while there so those who would like to meetup with the SOLR can do so on nights that they don't have much going on. So, I thought it would be good to have a group text string. For example, one text can be sent out to everyone saying "At xyz pub playing a round of Hearts, join if you like..." If this sounds like a good idea and you would like to see where some of the other members are, I don't mind doing the "tweeting" for participating members, if it helps. Simply email me your phone number and I will get a list going. wa4liberty@gmail.com. Kat.

Patrick, I was just taking a look at the Ohio turnpike map & wanted to confirm our Friday meet up.  The only rest area/service plaza I see west of exit 52  is Indian Meadows , Is this the one you wanted to meet at around 10:00 am ?  I will getting on I-90 at exit 52.

Give me a call or txt before Fri. 906-201-2505, thanks, Tom.

Also anyone that may be tent camping at the Spearfish camp ground,I just spoke with them & no reservations are needed for tenting.

Alaric you are correct, but iirc if you stay out of the truck lane on 680 its not to bad.

Patrick, from Des Moines it would be I-80 west, to I-29 north, to I-90 west.  If you go west on I-80 from I-29, you will be needing a helmet, as you will be going thru nebraska, and we have a helmet law.

I-680 splits off I-80 east of council bluffs and would cut some miles off the trip. HOWEVER sections of i-680 thru that stretch are pretty rough.
