NEW MEXICO SoLR is reaching out to all of us to help them fight off an attempt to regulate the transfer of firearms in their state.  Let's show our support.  Whether or not you're a member of the NM state group, you can go on their page and read the complete post. In order to post a reply, you must join.  If not a member, go to the GROUPS tabs at the top of the SoLR home page.  Once you see a complete listing of states, click on New Mexico (Group VI) and then request to JOIN.  This is a fight for all SoLR.  Here's my letter to the NM Governor that I sent via her official webpage.  I hope you'll do the same.

Dear GOVERNOR Martinez,

On the subject of gun regulation and the two proposed pieces of legislation in the New Mexico Congress, I respectfully ask that you VETO this legislation.  However well intended the sponsors of these bills, the desired outcome can never be achieved for two reasons. First of all, criminals will NOT obey this law and even if enacted, it will NEVER restrict their access to weapons.  Secondly, the transfer of arms is part and parcel of our right to own firearms.  Any further attempt to regulate guns by the state or federal gov't infringes upon our constitutionally protected rights of gun ownership.

Gun owners (and constitutional advocates) living outside New Mexico are keenly interested in this issue.  I'm certain you will uphold the 2nd amendment rights of the lawful gun owners in your state and not allow this legislation to become law.  Thank you for your steadfast leadership and commitment to protecting our rights.

Respectfully,

Richard Shaughnessy

Pres, Sons of Liberty Riders

Here is a link (I hope) to "Constitution 101" at Hillsdale College.

When it comes to teaching the Constitution, Hillsdale College is top of the line.  I signed up to get newsletters from them on a regular basis.  The newsletters discussed contemporary issues from the constitutional perspective.

Great suggestion, Dick.  I will try to squeeze some of these courses in for sure.

I'm studying the Constitution thru the Hillsdale College online study program. I'm into the 2nd course, Constitution 201, and its all about Progressivism, when, how and by whom was it started. Fascinating stuff. I've always called Progressives (aka Liberals) 'knuckleheads' and worse, and now I'm learning why they have this perverted view of reality. I'd recommend this series of courses to all members. These are college level lectures and readings and they are FREE. All you have to do is register an get started. It's part of the mission of Hillsdale College to teach Americans about the Constitution and the Republic in which we live. To pass mantle of Liberty on to our kids, passion alone is not enough. We have to know the words and the meaning ofthe words in the documents that set us free.

Most efficient way to accomplish that task is a good question Dr. Dan.  In most cases. arguing on Facebook is not going to prove productive.  Few people on those forums are impacted to change their minds (although seeds can be planted for thinking people.  A lot of judging books by their cover does occur, however, so a page, for example, with a catchy name (possibly something tied to "Freedom Thinkers".  Something that implicitly (although never explicitly differentiates liberty minded folks from the stalwarts of both parties.  I'm sure folks have spent big $s on figuring out how to best utilize Facebook (without getting censored by the FB police).  I wonder if there is legit info out there?

The mission of SoLR is to educate the American public about the Constitution, not so much the words, but, more importantly, the principles that serve as the basis for those words.  Most effective will be very short articles that articulate a principle and give examples of its importance to an individual citizen.

Reaching older adults through the newspaper is usually successful; however, reaching the young and under-educated citizens can best be accomplished by digital media.  Our challenge will be to find the most efficient means to accomplish that task.

2017.... We have an opportunity to become a significant partner in the re-education of America on the Constitution.  We exist as an organization to EDUCATE and be politically active.  I believe we accomplished the mission of political activism in the last several years.  Now, it's time to turn our talents and resources to education.

I recently spoke with the new managing editor of our local paper. He is open to the idea of having a WEEKLY article on the Constitution.  It will need to be well written to attract attention and stimulate thought.  This is just one approach, but I would like to see it implemented in as many NC communities as possible.  If you have a local paper you think would work with us, please let us know.

What other ideas can we come up with to promote Constitutional awareness and civics education?  This will be an ongoing topic in our newsletters which I hope you are receiving.

ACTA NON VERBA is more than just a motto.  I know many NC members who possess an amazing amount of talent.  I hope you'll be inspired by our mission and motto to restore the Constitution to its proper place in our schools, our communities and our governments.

In Liberty .....

That was, of course, a joke !!  But, very cleverly, the author has memorialized Hilary's insensitive and damning excuse for her arrogant ineptitude.
