I got confirmation from the Lake Junaluska Parade coordinator that we are Registered to ride in the Independence Parade on Tuesday, July 4! So this is now an official Ride!

I'll coordinate meeting times/places with NC Solar and post within the next day or two. But from the upstate count on KSU sometime in the 6AM hour.

Wear period style clothing if you can manage it. I have a 17th century style shirt, white, that I'll wear with my biker vest. (Haven't found a tricorn helmet though.)

Some Rules:

  • Motorcycles must sport at least one American Flag - size doesn't matter. This is a new rule just for this ride, I just made it up.
  • No offensive patches/language/art. This is a rule for anyone with a SOLR patch, but please extend it to anyone who wishes to ride with us.

Lake Junaluska Parade Rules (on their registration form):

  • No flyers or handouts
  • No water guns (or guns of any kind)
  • Don’t drag flags on ground
  • No offensive signs or language
  • Passing out candy is encouraged (no throwing) Most important rule: Behave and have fun!

Notice the "no guns of any kind" rule above. NC is an open carry state, but please don't for this event.

WOW.... wish I could do it.  Sounds like a great Patriotic thing to do.  If something changes I'll call you.

Fantastic, Dr. Dan!

I spoke with Dick a few minutes ago and and he too says NC SOLR is in. I just sent off the registration form and I'll follow up with a phone call tomorrow.

All are welcome to join in. Flying an American Flag, no matter what size, is proper attire.

Here is their website: Lake Junaluska Parade

Love the Lake Junaluska Ride, love the "Eagle Soars", low "Independence Day", and count us in.  Let me know the details and I will rally our troops and maybe some other veteran riders, too.

Correct... Independence Day Flag Ride...The Eagle Soars.

IF we can join the Lake Junaluska Parade, and IF NC SOLR is agreeable, then the schedule would look something like this...

  • Tuesday, July 4: Very early. We'll pick a couple of locations to rally: one for SC riders to meet up and one for SC Riders to meet with NC Riders - locations and times TBD.
  • 9:00 AM arrive Lake Junalusky.
  • 11:00 AM - ??? (I'll get more information tomorrow) Parade.

Vohn, that probably means at least one overnight, maybe two for you. I checked across SC and didn't find anything that looked like we could join as riders - mostly after dark fireworks, that's why I chose Lake Junalusky.

For those who can't make this ride, I encourage getting together with nearby members and cruise populated areas flying American Flags -- big or small. Vohn, you and Jerome Miller are near each other, in the Charleston area. A motorcycle flying flags, even small ones, gets attention. Two motorcycles, more attention, etc.

By the way..... I am encouraging patriots to use Independence Day instead of fourth of July...... I think it means more..... After all they have a fourth of July in England.....

Comment by william walker yesterday

I'm committed to an Independence Day Boat Parade..... Sorry.

July 4th Flag Parade....

Short Notice (as usual) planning the ride.

Lake Junaluska in NC has a parade that we may be able to join. From the upstate it's about a 2-hr ride. Any takers? Let me know quickly!

It was great to get together. I wish I'd thought to take a pic of us all at Mr. Jalapeno's. But the one below is how SC SOLR looked at a stop on the way there, after a little downpour...
