The 1st Tea Party Constitutional Caucus is now history.  This past Saturday, NC grassroots tea party activists held the first ever Presidential candidate state caucus.  There were nine (9) locations statewide and all candidates had an opportunity to attend or send representatives.    Each candidate needed to be nominated and that nomination had to seconded to get on the ballot.   NC residents with proper identification were banded and able to participate versus non-state residents who came as observers.   Rules of order were read and printed copies handed to all.   After nominations, participants were allowed a 1-minute comment for or against any candidate.  At the Columbus NC location, five (5) candidates were nominated – CARSON, CRUZ, TRUMP, PAUL and FIORINA.   After all the many thoughtful and passionate comments, there was a 30-minute caucus period, after which attendees were asked to declare their candidate.   Votes were recorded verbally, results tabulated and then summarized by the moderator.   In our location, Ted Cruz was the winner with 44 votes followed by Ben Carson with 33.   It was a well- organized and conducted event.  Attendees came from from several surrounding counties and were well-spoken and respectful.      It was a proud moment for North Carolina and the Tea Party movement here in particular.
